In Rome, Powerpill stations are installed in cafes, gyms, shopping centres, clinics, venues and other busy spots across the city. The easiest way to find the one nearest to you is to open the Powerpill app: the map shows you, in real time, the stations with available power banks and free slots for returns. You can also see a preview of the stations on the map above.
It depends on the station: many are free (you only pay if you don't return the power bank on time). At paid stations the rate is €1 per hour, capped at €3 per day. The cost is always shown in the app before you start, with no surprises. With the subscription (coming soon), rentals will be free.
You can pay by credit or debit card (just add it once) or with the balance in your top-up wallet in the app. At the station you can also rent on the spot by tapping your card on the built-in contactless card reader, without the app. When you start a rental a small pre-authorisation is placed and, on return, you are charged only for the time you actually used. Card payments are handled securely by Stripe.
At any Powerpill station, not only where you picked it up. Open the app, find the most convenient station on the map and slot the power bank into a free bay: the rental closes automatically.
Every power bank has three built-in cables: USB-C, Lightning and Micro-USB, so you can charge smartphones, wireless earbuds, e-cigarettes and any device without needing your own cable.
When you rent, a small amount is pre-authorised on your card (as a deposit, €15) which is never charged if you return the power bank within the set time. With the wallet, the amount is deducted from your balance and refunded when you return it.
The app always shows you the nearest stations with free slots, so you can quickly find somewhere to return it. Make sure the app confirms the return before you walk away.
After 45 hours from the start of the rental, the power bank is considered not returned and the deposit amount (€15) is charged as a penalty for non-return.
The power banks have a capacity of 5000 mAh. How long the charge lasts depends on the device you connect.
